Who agrees to Citizen Kane being remade?

They've already remade Psycho. Should they remake Kane? If yes or no, why?

No - for a couple of reasons...

The film pioneered the use of multiple layering, deep focus, so on and so forth - all of which have now become standard - the novelty has worn off..

I doubt even Mr Van Sant has the audacity or ego to take it on..

Besides, Citizen Kane flopped when it was first released, no-one wants the curse to happen again..

It is argued to be the greatest film of all time and in a way it encapsulated everything about the mdern film era it sprung life to.

For this reason it would never be accepted into culture again. Kane was unique in its way and I feel should be left that way.

The re-making of Psycho was successful for the very reason a CK remake would not be, horror films will always be part of the industry, CK was a one off that I doubt will ever be repeated again. Orson Welles inspired a generation, to redo it would merely be an insult to the film and what it stood for.

It is a timeless classic which, as long as capitalism continues to breed corruption, will always be seen as the basis for any film of its kind.

Remakes are alright, Cape Fear was better than the first and Gone in 60 seconeds looks amazing. If the first film was crap and you think you could do it better remake it. Personaly i don't like Kane and if any here thinks that they could do a better job than Orson Welles then have a go and remake it!

Never even seen Citezen Kane. Taped it last time it was on tv but never got round to watching it. I wish they would rewrite / remake StarWars: Episode 1. The story had such great potential...

I think they should digitally remaster it, add some exciting and tantalising colours, and some computer effects. They should recreate Marylin Monroe electronically and give her a part. They should also make it 3 hours long, and on 75mm for IMAX Broadcast, with a downloadable internet trailer. Put a 10 minute interval in the middle for ice-cream to recreate that authentic 'olde cinema' feeling.
And they should cast Mel Gibson into it. Have him acting opposite Marylin. Yes!
That way it would appeal to EVERYONE! The tech heads who love CGI, the Archivists and traditionalists who love old cinema, the action fans and familys (Mel Gibson has such a broad appeal.)
It would surely become a timeless masterpiece! Shown across the world to hungry audiences. Hooray!!! Throw in some explosions and more corrupt politicians. Bring in a fluffy dog, and a cute kid...
Now that would be CINEMA!

They could re-release it though, with a big fanfare, or/and make it available downloadable from the web (for free).
